Spring seems an appropriate time to think of bluebirds. The Eastern bluebird is just 7 inches long and can be found nesting in open woodlands. Next time you are in a forest preserve look closely for the rustic bluebird houses -- called bluebird boxes -- along the edges of woods and open meadows. Bluebirds are sometimes hard to spot, but when you do see them they are worth the effort. These photos of bluebirds by Jerry Kumery were taken at the Morton Arboretum, in Lisle, IL, and at Wolf Road Prairie in Weschester, IL.
