These photos were taken during a Zen retreat in Minnesota. Though I have spent much of my life in the Midwest, the time I spent on retreat at Hokyoji is responsible for my love of the prairie lands. I spent much of my time there watching the light and scenery shift and change. The same fields of flowers and grasses took on new meaning with each moment. Fresh spider webs decorated the fields each morning covered in unique droplets of dew. The morning fog often hovered over the fields prior to sunrise. The sun would celebrate each day with a ceremony of rising and setting, each outdoing the last. And, blossoms burst outwards and upwards when nourished by seemingly endless rays of sunshine some days. So much life and possibility in each inch, in each moment. How could we ever become bored with the richness that surrounds us in the prairie?
