Cropduster

Rick Marlatt

Killer bird, killer bird,
why must you prey on summer?
With your slow, flaxen wings
you carve nausea into the sky
and keep the children indoors.
Your low hovering death dust
is a pour imitation of rain. Your
want of eagle’s vision is palpable
and your call-a hollow snarl.
Go now, disappear into your own haze,
we’ve no need of your wasted innards.
What is it you see from there,
Killer bird?      Indeed,
not a weed, not a weed, not a weed.
